On October 16th, 2012, our team attended the 3rd Asian Business Summit & Expo at the Johnson Center, George Mason University, hosted by the Asian-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC). It was a great opportunity for us to learn more about how the current state of the economy is affecting local businesses in the Northern VA/DC metro area, develop a relationship with local business owners, and attend two business workshops held by members of prestigious organizations such as Wells Fargo Bank and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
As a result of this event, we gained some valuable insights on how to grow a business:
1.) Attending business development workshops is a great way to start. After perfecting the craft of the business, the owner must learn to develop effective marketing strategies, or recruit business-minded team members to help out; work on, as opposed to work in, your business.
2.) Find the right type of event and people to market to! In our case, the audience would be found in trade delegation summits and import & export business summits.
3.) Prepare clear and concise talking points. The more you are transparent about your business plan, the more effective your strategies will work while marketing to potential clients.
